OT
News, the monthly publication for members of the College of
Occupational Therapists is featuring our article this
month. August 2011 – Working with communities in Guatemala!
Clothing Works is very pleased to have been able to print 100 T-shirts for the Akazul initiative in Guatemala. Registered in the U.K. as a Community Interest Company (CIC), Akazul strives to preserve Guatemala’s marine and coastal environments through community based activities, with the iconic but sadly endangered Sea Turtle as its flagship species. To learn more about the inspirational work of Akazul, visit their website at www.akazul.org. Perhaps you’ll even be moved to sponsor a Turtle’s nest. June 2011 – College of Occupational Therapists' Conference
Unfortunately we're not attending ourselves this year, but hope to see you all in 2012!
April 2011 – a new beginning We have been able to offer another learning placement within Clothing Works and so welcome another member of the team. The placement provides the opportunity to learn our printing process, from design software to actual printing on bags and garments. The busier we are with embroidery and printing orders, the more placements we are able to offer, so please take the time to browse our product pages or contact us with a printing idea. There’s no minimum order! March 2011 – a retirement
We say goodbye to one of our members of staff this month as she
retires! Having begun her time with us on a placement, as someone
using mental health services, she finished as a paid member of
staff, not using any mental health services at all. Clothing Works’ survey update, Feb 2011 Thank you to everyone who has taken the trouble to complete and return their survey. We will continue sending them out for a few weeks yet, but here are a few of the things we’ve learnt; 90% of the surveys were completed by NHS employees, but only 45% of these customers had asked their employer to provide their uniform. DID YOU KNOW that any NHS supplies / buying dept can raise an order with us and it will have no VAT added as we are also part of the NHS? Many people commented that our garments are generously proportioned. As our website states, apart from tunics and trousers, our garments are a unisex fitting, allowing for ease of movement at work. If you would like a ladies’ fit, please state at time of ordering. We are always happy to exchange unworn items for a more appropriate size. We have made this clearer on our ‘size guide’ as a result of your feedback. Kim Hewett, February 2011
January 2011 – New reduced prices for students! From January 2011 we will be reducing the price of all garments bearing the British Association of Occupational Therapists’ ‘Student’ logo. No VAT will be added to these items saving students 20%!So browse our products page and order some professional clothing in time for your next placement. Remember, if we don’t feature just the style or colour you’re looking for, contact us and we will do our best to provide it. There’s no minimum order. Kim Hewett
15 interested Occupational Therapists visited New Leaf on 16th July to learn more of our role in Devon Partnership NHS Trust’s Vocational Rehabilitation Services. After an introduction by Beriah Chandoo (Senior Membership Officer, College of Occupational Therapists), Don Crispin (New Leaf Manager) explained the work of New Leaf and its partner organisation WorkWays (www.workways.org.uk). Visitors then had a chance to visit each department in turn (Clothing Works, Carpentry, Print and Horticulture), meet the teams and turn their hand to something practical. At the end of the afternoon, there was a chance to sample the tasty work of the catering department while chatting to staff, other Occupational Therapists etc. We enjoyed meeting you all and hope you are using your newly printed bags! Here are some the comments we have received about the Study Day:
Kim Hewett 22nd to 24th June 2010 - College of Occupational Therapists’ Annual Conference Clothing Works presented a stand in the Exhibition Hall at the College of Occupational Therapists’ Annual Conference in Brighton. Thanks to everyone who came along and chatted to us about our role in Devon Partnership NHS Trust’s Vocational Rehabilitation Services – it’s always interesting to find out what’s happening in other parts of the country. If anyone would like to know more about our work, or arrange a visit, please feel free to get in touch.
A big ‘thank you’ to the College of Occupational Therapists for their continued support – an excellent example of collaborative working.
Some of you will be visiting us on 16th July for an OT study day and we look forward to meeting you. Kim Hewett 1 June 2010 - Conference Preparations We have printed the stewards' T-shirts for the College of Occupational Therapists' Annual Conference and are now getting ourselves ready for the big event. We will be on Stand
61 in the Exhibition Hall, so please come along and
introduce yourself if you would like to see our garments, or
chat to us about our work in Mental Health Vocational
Rehabilitation Services. 30 March 2010 - New Recruits Two more people are beginning a placement at Clothing Works this
week. The first is working with us to develop his social skills and
confidence by helping with our website and printing. The second is
also looking to develop her confidence, but she has opted to learn
the financial procedures in using SAGE, producing invoices etc. Kim Hewett 4 March 2010 - Trip to the College of Occupational Therapists, London. Don and I travelled to London to meet
with our colleagues at the College of Occupational Therapists. Clothing Works has been
working closely with the College since 1999 and the meeting was a
chance to provide another update on our progress and look at
developing further links, for the benefit of people using our
Vocational Rehabilitation Services and Occupational Therapists
around the world. Kim Hewett |
